Uterine fibroids, also called uterine leiomyomas, are benign (non-cancerous) tumours that develop from the uterine muscle and connective tissue. Fibroids are quite prevalent, affecting about four out of every ten women at some time in their life.

Women of Afro-American descent are more likely to have them. Fibroids can range in size from a single fibroid to several fibroids. Fibroids are categorized according to where they reside in the uterus.

Symptoms to look for:

 The majority of women who have fibroids have no symptoms ( asymptomatic). In the majority of cases, they are discovered by chance. However, in a small number of cases, the signs can be quite upsetting, lowering the female’s quality of life.

• Patients with dysmenorrhoea may have acute, incapacitating pain before or during their periods.
• In the lower abdomen, there is swelling, a lump, or protrusion.

• Symptoms of high blood pressure include an increase in the frequency with which urine is passed.
• During sexual intercourse, there is pain or discomfort.
• Pain in the lower back
• Menstrual Cramps That Are Too Severe
• Infertility

Fibroids comes with complication, some are:

• Anemia due to heavy blood flow during periods. In some cases blood transfusion.
• Lower backache
• Frequent urge of peeing
• Miscarriages
• Difficulty in conceive
